Packets of reports from the U.S. Department of Labor and Osha concerning the Edwards building site in Rochester, New York have been sent to Mayor Knight, the City Council and College Hill. The information details violations and fines issued by the U.S. Department of Labor and Osha amounting to $45,000 in a 3 week period, plus a letter from the President of the Rochester Building and Construction Trades Council which describes the site in Rochester as "... a textbook example of how out of town developers trying to do a job on the cheap can wreak havoc on a community."
After 25 years of publicly and privately funded revitalization efforts by the City and residents past and present, the College Hill Historic District faces a potential massive student housing development:
- 750 students
- only 90% parking for their complexes -perhaps less
- 10-13 blocks of 2.5-4.5 story buildings
- Redesigning of streets which will increase traffic on narrow College Hill streets
Tremendous gains could be lost:
- $1.8 million combined federal funds and voter appoved bonds invested
- $500,000 private funds
- The payoff? $5.5 million in tax value!
Think this is as good as we can hope for?
Think again. Here's proof of several alternate routes that could easily be taken.
